Marston's Brewery
Marston's has brewed in Burton upon Trent since 1834, when John Marston started at the Horninglow Brewery; in 1898 the business moved to the Albion Brewery on Shobnall Road. The town's well water, which filters through a thick layer of gypsum, gives the beers their crisp bitterness. The main ale, Pedigree, was long fermented in the historic Burton Union system; in January 2024 the company announced it would retire the last four sets. The brewing business entered a joint venture with Carlsberg in 2020, has been wholly owned by the Danish group since 2024 and trades today as Carlsberg Britvic.

How we measure this
Two thresholds are at work here:
- The signature list shows notes that recur in at least 6% of this brewery's beers. A low bar — enough to flag a pattern, not high enough to call it an exclusive trait.
- The peer comparison below shows only notes where this brewery's coverage differs from similar breweries by at least 20 percentage points. A higher bar — enough to call a real difference, not a nudge.
A note can appear on the signature list without appearing in the peer comparison: it recurs here, but similar breweries do the same thing.
Pedigree
Their beers place in the Top 63% of the catalogue on average, across 17 ranked beers. One clear standout well ahead of the rest.
