Lady's Well Brewery is Heineken Ireland's sole remaining brewing site, located on Leitrim Street in Cork. Established in 1856 by James J. Murphy and his brothers on the grounds of the former Cork Foundling Hospital, the brewery was named after the holy well on the hill opposite. Since 2009 it also produces Beamish Irish Stout, which was moved here when the neighbouring Beamish and Crawford brewery on South Main Street closed after 217 years of continuous brewing. Both stouts — Murphy's Irish Stout and Beamish Irish Stout — are today brewed side by side on the same premises, alongside Murphy's Irish Red.

How they compare
Each beer measured against others of its own style, then averaged across the range. Compared with 216 other breweries making Stout.
Three beers is enough for a first read, not a full house style — one unusual beer moves this a lot.

Lady's Well Brewery's beers land close to what is typical for the Stout styles they brew. The character is in the styles they choose and how consistently they hit them — not in standing apart from the field.
