This family brewery sits at the entrance to Geisfeld, a village in the municipality of Strullendorf about seven kilometres east of Bamberg. Johann Schrauder founded it in 1872 and ran it as Brauerei Schrauder until 1910. Andreas Ruhl bought the site in 1911, and it took its present name when his daughter Kunigunde married the master butcher Peter Griess. The family brews just under 1,000 hectolitres a year by decoction mashing, filters and pasteurises nothing and bottles in-house. The beer is served at the inn and at the Griess-Keller, a terraced beer cellar at the edge of the woods.
