Bissell Brothers Brewing Company was founded in 2013 by brothers Noah and Peter Bissell in Portland, Maine, after Noah's homebrewing hobby grew into a commercial vision. The brewery sold its first kegs of its signature Substance Ale at The Thirsty Pig on December 7, 2013, quickly generating a fervent following in the Portland beer scene. In 2016, Bissell Brothers moved its production into a renovated 100-year-old former railcar repair building at Thompson's Point, which also houses a large taproom. The brewery has grown into a multifaceted hospitality destination and is widely regarded as one of Maine's premier craft breweries.
