Conrad Binding, a cooper and brewer, founded his brewery on 1 August 1870 in a small house on Garküchenplatz in Frankfurt's old town and moved it in 1881 to the Sachsenhäuser Berg, where it was incorporated in 1884. The eagle from the city's coat of arms has served as its emblem from the start. Since the early 1950s it has belonged to the Oetker group, whose beer division was known as the Binding-Gruppe until it was renamed Radeberger Gruppe in 2002. Brewing in Sachsenhausen ended in September 2023; the Frankfurt company still holds the brand rights.
