Berlin's large industrial brewery traces its roots to 1842, when the Schultheiss line began in the old city centre; the Kindl brewery followed in Rixdorf in 1872. Since 2006 the two houses have operated as one company in Alt-Hohenschönhausen, on a site opened as Gabriel & Richter and acquired in 1920. Part of the Radeberger Group since 2004, it brews around 1.5 million hectolitres a year under Berliner Kindl, Schultheiss, Berliner and Berliner Bürgerbräu, among other brands.
