hopIQ found 10 beers that share Berliner Pilsner's malty and spicy character. The Berliner Pilsner goes back to 1902, when the brewery of Gabriel and Richter first brewed a beer in the Pilsen manner; the current recipe dates from 1963 and made it East Berlin's market leader. It is bottom-fermented, at 5 percent with an original gravity of 11.2 percent, brewed from barley malt and hops. It pours clear pale gold with a white head. The nose is grainy and lightly spicy. A brisk, slightly sweet malt entry leads into a thin but lively body and a crisp finish with a gentle, clean bitterness.
