Auerbräu has brewed in Rosenheim, Upper Bavaria, since 1889. Johann Auer bought land beside the railway station in 1887, took over the Saubräu a year later and had the first batch brewed on 17 September 1889; the capercaillie, the Auerhahn, became the trademark. Smaller local breweries were absorbed from 1913 onwards, and the company has been part of the Paulaner brewery group since 1984. It now trades as Rosenheimer Spezialitätenbrauerei. Brewing water comes from the brewery's own deep well, and the range runs in three lines: Rosenheimer, Johann Auer and 111.
