Abbey Ales
Abbey Ales was founded in Bath in 1997 by Alan Morgan, a former brewery sales and marketing manager, and was then the first brewery in the city for more than fifty years. It brews at the Abbey Brewery on Camden Row, where Morgan now works alongside his son Simon and head brewer Martin Langham. The range is traditional English cask ale, made with floor-malted barley from nearby Warminster Maltings and English hops, with the local water treated for bitter brewing. Bellringer, launched in October 1997, remains the flagship. The company also runs a handful of pubs in Bath.

How we measure this
Two thresholds are at work here:
- The signature list shows notes that recur in at least 6% of this brewery's beers. A low bar — enough to flag a pattern, not high enough to call it an exclusive trait.
- The peer comparison below shows only notes where this brewery's coverage differs from similar breweries by at least 20 percentage points. A higher bar — enough to call a real difference, not a nudge.
A note can appear on the signature list without appearing in the peer comparison: it recurs here, but similar breweries do the same thing.
