Fatlamp

Tap to rate

Fatlamp is a hazy pale ale first released in 2019 and brewed with Mosaic, Simcoe and Waimea hops. The brewery describes a full-bodied beer that balances tropical fruit, citrus and pine ahead of a firmly bitter finish. Ripe fruit and grapefruit lead, and a resinous note carries into the close. The name refers to the prehistoric lamps once used to light the ancient mines beneath the North Wales landscape, remains of which were found on the Great Orme above Llandudno.

The nose opens with pronounced tropical fruit notes—ripe stone fruit and citrus zest—driven by the Mosaic, Simcoe and Waimea hop blend. A resinous, piney character emerges beneath the fruit, adding structural complexity. Subtle malt sweetness provides a soft foundation, allowing the hop aromatics to remain in the foreground.

◐ Taste

Entry is full-bodied and approachable, with ripe fruit and grapefruit character settling on the palate immediately. Mid-palate balances lingering citrus and tropical notes against a building, herbal bitterness that grows toward the finish. The resinous quality carries through, adding a dry, slightly woody dimension without overwhelming the fruit-forward profile.
