Double Perpetual IPA

Tap to rate

Bold citrus, sticky pine and tropical fruit define this double imperial pale ale. It began in the brewery's small-batch Scratch Series and cycles through large amounts of Cascade, Chinook and Citra, with Nugget also in the recipe. Crystal, Munich and Pilsner malts and house ale yeast. Straw to golden, 9.5% ABV, now part of the once-a-year series, brewed in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Double Perpetual IPA

◎ Appearance

The beer presents a straw to golden hue with excellent clarity and bright luminosity. A dense, off-white head forms readily and clings persistently to the glass walls, leaving distinct lacework as the beer is consumed. Carbonation appears brisk and well-integrated, supporting the foam structure throughout.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with assertive citrus notes—bright orange and grapefruit pith—layered over sticky pine and resinous Edelhopfen character. Beneath the hop-forward profile, tropical fruit esters emerge: mango and passionfruit add depth and complexity. A subtle malt backbone of crystal and Munich malts grounds the composition, contributing light honey and bread undertones without eclipsing the aromatic hop expression.

◐ Taste

The palate enters with immediate citrus intensity and resinous bite, evolving through the mid-palate with pronounced tropical fruit flavors and lingering pine. The 80 IBU bitterness is substantial and assertive, yet balanced by moderate sweetness from Crystal and Munich malts. The 9.5% ABV presents warmth without harshness, and the full body carries the flavor profile confidently across the tongue.

◑ Finish

The finish is dry and lingering, with citrus and pine persisting on the palate for several minutes. A gentle alcohol warmth fades slowly, leaving a clean, hop-driven aftertaste that invites another sip.
