🌍 Japan · Pale Lager · One of 73 Pale Lagers in hopIQ

First sold in 1877 by the Kaitakushi brewery, this is the oldest Japanese beer brand still on the market, nicknamed Akaboshi after the red star on its label. Unlike the draft range it is heat-treated, which gives it a rounder, fuller body. Brewed from barley malt with rice, maize and starch, it pours bright gold with plenty of foam. A pilsner-like hop aroma meets bready malt; the palate is malty and slightly sweet, balanced by a firm bitterness that carries into a dry finish.

What is a Pale Lager?

Euro Pale Lagers are clean, refreshing lagers with 4–5.5% ABV and IBU 10–25. Soft malt sweetness, light hop bitterness and high carbonation make them supremely drinkable.

Finding a similar Pale Lager

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same malty, full-bodied, bready character as Sapporo Lager will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
