Dethurana

Tap to rate

Dethurana is an imperial stout at 14.1% ABV, a reimagining of Deth's Tar with part of the blend finished in young Brazilian amburana barrels. It joined the Deep Wood Series lineup in January 2026.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Dethurana

◎ Appearance

Deep black-brown hue with an opaque, impenetrable body characteristic of the Imperial Stout style. A dense, tan head forms and recedes gradually, leaving distinct lacing across the glass that speaks to the beer's substantial malt structure and alcohol warmth. Carbonation is restrained, lending the beer a weighty, viscous presentation.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with warm spice notes—cinnamon and baking spice—layered atop roasted malt and dark chocolate. As the beer warms, the young amburana barrel treatment emerges: coconut and subtle maple sweetness become apparent, evoking toasty, crunchy breakfast cereal notes without excessive sugar. A light coffee undertone grounds the profile.

◐ Taste

The palate is full-bodied and warming, with spice and toasted grain arriving immediately. Mid-palate develops chocolate and coffee notes alongside the coconut and maple character from barrel aging, creating layers that evolve as the beer moves across the tongue. The 65 IBU bitterness is present but integrated, never sharp; the 14.1% ABV shows as smooth warmth rather than harsh burn.

◑ Finish

The finish is long and warming, with residual spice and roasted malt lingering on the palate. Sweetness remains restrained throughout, avoiding cloying sensations even at higher alcohol content.
