Thor's Hammer

Tap to rate

Thor's Hammer is a deep golden, double hopped IPA of 5.1%, bold and impactful: lemon and tropical fruit up front, grapefruit and pine in a striking finish, driven by Chinook, Centennial and Columbus and two rounds of dry hopping. It was brewed for a limited time only. Vikings who settled on Orkney wore small hammer pendants; one was found in a woman's grave at the Broch of Gurness. Bronze at SIBA Scotland 2026.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with vibrant citrus—lemon zest and bright grapefruit—followed by tropical fruit notes that suggest passionfruit and stone fruit. The hop character is pronounced but refined, with earthy pine in the background balancing the fruit-forward entry. A subtle maltiness provides foundation without overshadowing the layered hop expression.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with assertive but well-integrated bitterness that builds gradually across the mid-palate. Citrus and tropical notes echo the aroma, followed by a drying grapefruit and pine resin character that becomes increasingly prominent. The malt backbone—clean and slightly biscuity—supports the hop intensity without sweetness, allowing the dual dry-hopping rounds to define the overall character.

◑ Finish

The finish is long and clean, with grapefruit and pine persisting on the palate and lingering dryness that invites the next sip. No harsh edges or astringency; the bitterness resolves into a refined, herbal aftertaste.

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.
