🌍 Germany · Kellerbier · One of 112 Kellerbiers in hopIQ

Mönchshof Zwickl joined the range in 2017 under the name Zoigl, after the Upper Palatinate tradition, and has carried its current name since 2022. It is fermented cold, lagered close to freezing and left unfiltered, with Hallertau Perle and Saphir as aroma hops and a malt blend that includes caramel malts. It pours light bronze with an opal haze under a creamy white head. Honey, fresh bread and a little yeast lead on the nose; the soft palate brings linden-blossom honey, gentle caramel, a nutty touch and a hint of citrus, and the bitterness stays at the very edge.

Taste

Entry is soft and smooth, with linden-blossom honey and gentle caramel notes establishing the mid-palate. A subtle nutty character emerges alongside a whisper of citrus from the noble hops. Bitterness remains restrained at the very edge, never dominating; the low IBU allows malt sweetness to persist throughout.
