🌍 Denmark · Brown Ale · One of 25 Brown Ales in hopIQ

One of the four beers Jacobsen launched with in 2005, inspired by the northern English brown ales Carl Jacobsen studied on his travels in the late 1860s. Six malts, from pale ale and amber to crystal and carafa, build a chestnut-brown body, while New Zealand Nelson Sauvin joins East Kent Goldings and Fuggles. An English top-fermenting strain gives high attenuation. Aroma: caramel, coffee and dark chocolate with dates and figs. The palate is full and malty, with a subtle grape-like fruitiness and a markedly dry finish.

The nose opens with caramel and dark chocolate, grounded by subtle coffee notes. Dried fruit character emerges—dates and figs—alongside a delicate, grape-like fruitiness from the Nelson Sauvin hop. The aroma is inviting and complex without any sharp edges, reflecting both the malt bill and the English top-fermenting strain.
