Gulden Draak displays a deep mahogany to dark brown color characteristic of Belgian strong ales, with excellent clarity revealing its rich malt complexity. The beer forms a dense, creamy tan head that demonstrates impressive retention, while moderate carbonation creates fine bubbles that slowly rise through the glass.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with inviting aromas of dark dried fruit—raisins and prunes—layered beneath rich caramel and subtle molasses notes. Belgian yeast character shines through with gentle spice and herbal undertones, while warming alcohol vapors add complexity without being overbearing.

◐ Taste

The palate entry is full-bodied and smooth, with immediate dark fruit and caramel sweetness balanced by restrained bitterness and spice notes. The mid-palate reveals layers of toasted malt, chocolate, and vanilla that develop beautifully, while the 10.5% ABV provides warming alcohol character that enhances rather than dominates the flavor profile.
