Electric Surfboard

Tap to rate

Peach and apricot, lychee, grapefruit and mango, closing with a touch of resin: this Double IPA runs on Apollo, Ekuanot, Mosaic and Simcoe hops and weighs in at 9% ABV. Add electricity and money to any extreme sport and you get an extreme luxury sport; here that means an electrifying hop bill and a lot of expensive time in the tank. Fermented with Kaiser (German Alt) yeast, with can art by Larry Shuler of Shuler Surfboards.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced stone fruit—ripe peach and apricot—layered with exotic notes of lychee and mango. A citrus backbone of grapefruit emerges beneath the fruit, accompanied by a subtle resinous edge that hints at the beer's substantial hop charge. The German Alt yeast contributes a clean fermentation character that allows the Edelhopfen to take center stage.

◐ Taste

The palate enters with confident fruity sweetness—predominantly peach and tropical stone fruit—before transitioning into a moderately bitter, resinous mid-palate that grips the mouth with dry, piney intensity. The 80 IBU load feels well-balanced against the 9% ABV's subtle malt support, never veering into harshness; instead, the finish builds toward a sustained herbal bitterness that lingers with dry resin.

◑ Finish

The finish is long and satisfying, with the resiny bitterness and citrus fade gradually, leaving behind a dry palate with lingering grapefruit and pine notes. A clean, alcohol-driven warmth emerges in the aftertaste without harshness.
