Black Isle Organic Pale Ale

Tap to rate

First brewed in 2019 for the brewery's twenty-first birthday and originally sold as 21 Pale, this golden pale ale has since had its recipe adjusted. Lager and wheat malts form a light base for Simcoe, Citra and Nelson Sauvin hops. The brewery names fresh pine and citrus in the flavour and grapefruit and tangerine on the nose. Unfiltered and light in body, with the hops clearly ahead of the malt. On cask it appears under the older name Yellowhammer.

◑ Finish

The finish is relatively short, with a lingering dry bitterness and a faint citrus echo that fades cleanly. No malt sweetness persists into the aftertaste.

Serve at 7–10°C

Cold enough to sharpen the hop aroma without numbing the palate. Around 7–9°C keeps the citrus and pine vivid without losing bitterness definition.

Pint glass

The classic — versatile, comfortable to hold and keeps the beer cool. No frills, no distractions: just the beer.

Drink fresh — hop aroma fades fast. Best within 3 months of canning or bottling.
