Double Ghost

Tap to rate

An IPA that takes the Ghost Ship recipe up to 5.2% and is dry hopped at two points during fermentation. Citra does most of the work, supported by Centennial and Chinook, with British Pilgrim for bittering. Pine and the rye spice of the original come first, then mango, guava and pineapple, with orange, red berries and a hint of white grape. The bitterness is pleasant rather than sharp, and the body is full enough to carry the hops.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with resinous pine and subtle spice from the rye malt, characteristic of Ghost Ship's foundation. As it opens, Citra brings forward tropical stone fruit—mango and guava—with bright pineapple notes and a thread of orange zest, finishing with a whisper of white grape and red berry complexity.

◐ Taste

The palate opens cleanly with pine and rye spice, then transitions to ripe mango and guava mid-sip. The dual dry-hop additions deliver sustained tropical and citrus character without harshness; bitterness from Pilgrim and supporting hops is restrained and refined, allowing the hops' fruitiness to dominate. The body is full and malt-forward enough to anchor the hop expression without overwhelm.

◑ Finish

Medium-length finish with lingering pine and orange peel, accompanied by gentle warming from the 5.2% ABV. The aftertaste remains dry and hoppy, tapering cleanly without astringency.

Serve at 8–11°C

Serve well-chilled. Session IPAs are at their best cold — the lower ABV means less warmth to balance the hops.

Tulip glass

The curved shape concentrates hop aromas and supports a thick head. Essential for aromatic ales and IPAs where the nose is half the experience.

Drink fresh. Session IPAs are brewed to be consumed young — the hops are at their best now.

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same tropical, piney, hoppy character as Double Ghost will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
