About La Chouffe

La Chouffe is the flagship of Brasserie d'Achouffe, a Belgian farmhouse brewery nestled in the Ardennes village of Achouffe. The gnome on the label is no accident — the brewery has a playful, artisan character that runs through the beer itself. At 8% ABV, refermented in the bottle and unfiltered, it pours a hazy golden orange with a tight, persistent white head. The nose is immediately distinctive: fresh coriander, orange peel, and fruity esters from the Belgian yeast create an almost perfume-like complexity. On the palate it is smooth and gently sweet with medium-high carbonation; coriander spice builds through the mid-palate before a clean, dry finish that belies the alcohol. IBU around 20 — not bitter, simply balanced. Founded in 1982; acquired by Duvel Moortgat in 2006 while retaining the original recipe and character.
