After a gap of about forty years, brewing came back inside York's city walls in 1996: the first traditionally brewed ales from within the walls in over forty years, made on Toft Green, a stone's throw from Micklegate Bar. The brewery called that site home for just over 23 years. Since 2018 it has belonged to Black Sheep Brewery, which bought it out of administration from Mitchell's of Lancaster. Yorkshire Terrier, Guzzler and Centurion's Ghost Ale are among its ales.
