Schreckenskammer
Brauhaus Schreckenskammer stands opposite St. Ursula church in Cologne and counts itself among the city's oldest brewhouses: first documented in 1442 on Johannisstraße 42, called a brewhouse in 1487, rebuilt on its present site in 1960 after bombs destroyed the earlier building in 1943. Two legends explain the name, one about railway exams, one about a condemned man's last beer. Still a family business, with a sand-scrubbed oak floor and a beer garden. The Kölsch is brewed under contract.
