Monkish Brewing Co. was founded in 2012 by Henry and Adriana Nguyen in Torrance, California, with an original focus on Belgian-style ales — a passion Henry developed while earning a PhD in New Testament Theology at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. In April 2016, the brewery released its first IPA in collaboration with New York's Other Half Brewing, which sold out in under an hour and launched Monkish's rise as a New England IPA powerhouse. The brewery quickly became recognized as the first West Coast brewery to fully dial in the hazy New England IPA style. Monkish operates its World HQ taproom at its South Bay location on Western Avenue in Torrance.
