Greene King Brewery
Greene King traces its roots to 1799 when nineteen-year-old Benjamin Greene arrived in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, to establish a brewery. In 1805 he entered a partnership to purchase Wright's Brewery on Westgate Street, where commercial production began in 1806. The business merged with Frederick King's brewing operation in 1887 to form Greene King. The company grew to become one of the UK's largest pub and brewing groups. In 2019 Greene King was acquired by CK Asset Holdings, the Hong Kong-based conglomerate, and continues to brew at the historic Westgate Brewery in Bury St Edmunds.
