Dithmarscher is an independent family business in Marne, the only private brewery on the North Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein. Brewing on its site in the Oesterstraße is recorded from 1775, when Martin Henning Dibbern made brown beer there. In 1884 the business passed to Hinrich Christian Hintz; his son Karl Christian built a lager brewery in 1908, the origin of the Dithmarscher Pilsener. The fifth Hintz generation owns the company today, and since 2025 the beer runs through an underground pipeline to a new filling plant on the Meldorfer Straße.
