Bitburger is a family brewery in Bitburg in the Südeifel region, founded in 1817 and run today by the seventh generation of the founding family. The brewery claims to have introduced Pilsener as a beer designation in Germany in 1883 and has brewed its pils since 1909. Part of the hops come from Holsthum, a few kilometres away, where the Bitburger Siegelhopfen is grown solely for the brewery and combined with Hallertau hops. Bitburger is one of the leading draught beer brands in Germany and has exported to the United States since 1978.
