Known for Euro Pale Lager

Birrificio Messina was originally founded in 1923 by the Lo Presti-Faranda family in Messina, Sicily, producing a beer initially called Birra Trinacria. In the 1980s, the brand was sold to Dreher (part of the Heineken group), which shifted production to Puglia; the Messina facility ultimately closed in 2011 after years of decline. In 2013, fifteen former employees invested their severance pay to establish the Birrificio Messina cooperative, reviving local beer production in the city. A new modern facility was inaugurated in 2016, and in 2019 the cooperative signed a five-year commercial agreement with Heineken for the joint production of the Birra Messina Cristalli di Sale variant.
