Disco Mystic

Tap to rate

Disco Mystic is a double IPA of 8% that splits its hopping evenly between Citra and Strata. The Citra contributes an oily, deeper layer, while Strata brings bright passionfruit and pineapple juice. Both varieties go into the fermenter in two additions at a very high dry-hopping rate, and the beer is correspondingly opaque, with a dense, soup-like haze. Saturated with tropical fruit, it has returned to the Whiplash range repeatedly since 2020.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Disco Mystic

◎ Appearance

Disco Mystic presents a pale golden hue beneath a thick, persistent haze that renders the beer almost opaque. The dense, soup-like cloudiness—characteristic of high dry-hopping rates—settles throughout rather than clearing. A creamy head forms readily and clings to the glass with substantial lacing as you drink.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with bright tropical fruit, dominated by passionfruit and pineapple juice character from the Strata addition. Beneath that brightness sits an oily, deeper layer of citrus and resinous notes from the Citra, creating a complex interplay between sharp and round fruit aromatics. A subtle earthy undertone rounds out the profile.

◐ Taste

The palate opens full-bodied with tropical fruit sweetness that builds through the mid-palate, driven by the dual hop character. Citra's oily texture melds with Strata's juice-forward profile, delivering a simultaneously smooth and vibrant experience. Bitterness emerges cleanly at mid-palate and sustains moderately through, balancing the fruit without sharpness.

◑ Finish

The finish is clean and drying, with tropical fruit notes lingering gently as bitterness fades. A slightly resinous aftertaste persists, underscoring the quality of the dry-hopping work without becoming harsh.

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same tropical, hazy, hoppy character as Disco Mystic will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
