War Drobe Malfunction presents a deep mahogany red with ruby highlights, framed by a creamy off-white head that clings to the glass with deliberate persistence. The clarity reveals the beer's contemplative nature—polished and refined, with no haze or sediment. Carbonation appears restrained, befitting a barrel-aged imperial ale of this weight and complexity.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with pronounced oxidative Port-wine character: dried figs, raisins, and toasted walnut weave through the resinous, caramel backdrop of the Imperial Red base. Nearly two and a half years in tawny Port barrels has imparted a silky, nutty sweetness that sits comfortably alongside the noble hop aromatics. Subtle dark chocolate and oak frame the entire profile without obscuring the fruit-forward richness.

◐ Taste

The palate unfolds with luscious dark fruit and toffee, grounded by roasted red malt depth that speaks to the beer's Imperial Red pedigree. The barrel maturation introduces a silky, nutty sweetness that winds gracefully through the resinous hop character, creating tension between oxidative complexity and residual bitterness. Mid-palate exhibits full body and smoothness, with dark chocolate and oak contributing to a layered, contemplative mouthfeel.

The finish is long and warming, with gentle tannins carrying lingering notes of dried cherry and dark chocolate into a measured fade. The 10.3% alcohol remains gracefully integrated rather than harsh, allowing the barrel's character to dominate the aftertaste.
