Summit Oatmeal Stout

Tap to rate

Hazelnut, caramel and chocolate lead, sweet and sharp, with a more robust finish. For years this stout poured only on nitro draught; the canned version keeps the same recipe but tastes brighter and finishes crisper. Brewed since 2004 at 5.0% ABV with oats, roasted barley and chocolate malt, plus Northern Brewer, Pilgrim and Fuggle hops.

◎ Appearance

Deep brown with mahogany undertones, opaque and richly hued at SRM 35. The nitro-influenced canning produces a dense, persistent head with fine Schaumkleiden that cling to the glass. Carbonation is restrained yet sufficient, lending a creamy visual character.

◐ Taste

The palate opens with rich chocolate and hazelnut sweetness, balanced by moderate bitterness (32 IBU) that arrives mid-palate without harshness. Oats deliver a silky, malty body with layered caramel and a crisp edge that cuts through the sweetness. Roasted grain and subtle coffee notes provide depth without drying the finish.

◑ Finish

The finish is clean and moderately crisp, with roasted grain and chocolate lingering gently rather than assertively. At 5% ABV, the beer closes dry with a pleasant aftertaste of cocoa and hazelnut without warming alcohol.
