Nu Skool

Tap to rate

Tropical, spicy, piney and citrus character come with a slight malty sweetness and a resinous edge. Nu Skool uses only new American and experimental hops: Mosaic in the hopback, an experimental hop in the whirlpool, then dry-hopping on two days with Mosaic, Simcoe and Equinox. It follows over a year of prototype batches, a modern counterpart to the IPA brewed since 2002.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with prominent tropical fruit notes—pineapple and stone fruit—layered beneath a sharp resinous edge and herbaceous pine character. Spicy and slightly citrus undertones emerge from the experimental hop blend, creating a complex and forward-facing aromatic profile. A subtle malty sweetness provides gentle backbone without obscuring the hop-driven character.

About American IPA

Style guide · what to expect · how to find alternatives

What is a American IPA?

IPAs are hop-forward ales with 5.5–7.5% ABV and IBU 40–70+. Bold hop aroma — citrus, tropical, resinous — with firm bitterness and a dry, clean finish.

Finding a similar American IPA

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same tropical, resinous, spicy character as Nu Skool will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
