Glasgow Red

Tap to rate

Glasgow Red is a 4.4% red ale that leans further into bitterness than the style usually does. Candied plum shows on the nose, followed by toffee and caramel from the malt. A blend of Old and New World hops then takes over: a firm hop bitterness cuts through the sugary malt and leaves a finish that is bitter-sweet instead of soft. It has been part of the house range since the Glasgow brewpub opened in 2016.

◐ Taste

Entry is sweet with caramel and Malz character, but a firm hop bitterness builds through the mid-palate, cutting cleanly through the sugary malt structure. The balance tilts toward bitter-sweet rather than soft or residually sweet, with Old and New World hop varieties providing both woody and citrus-edged backbone.

◑ Finish

The finish is dry and lingering, with hop bitterness holding the final impression rather than fading into sweetness. A subtle woody and peppery aftertaste persists, supporting the beer's assertive hop character throughout.
