Stouty McStoutface

Tap to rate

Stouty McStoutface is a 4.4% Irish dry stout made as a deliberate counterpoint to dessert-style dark beers: no lactose, no coffee, no chocolate, no fruit and no syrup go into it. What remains is the plain form of the style, in which roasted malt carries the flavour and the finish stays dry. The roast runs from the first sip to the last, with no added sweetness to soften it. It has been in the Glasgow brewpub's range since 2022.

AI-generated sensory profile for Stouty McStoutface

◎ Appearance

Deep brown to near-black in the glass, with opaque clarity typical of the Irish dry stout style. A dense, persistent tan head forms and clings to the rim, leaving distinct lacing as the beer is consumed. Fine carbonation supports steady foam retention throughout drinking.

◐ Taste

Entry is crisp and dry, with roasted malt flavors immediately present across the palate. The middle develops earthy, slightly grainy notes with a modest bitterness (40 IBU) that complements rather than overwhelms. The finish stays bone-dry—no residual sweetness masks the roast, which persists cleanly through the aftertaste.

◑ Finish

Dry and medium in length, with roasted malt lingering into the aftertaste. No sweetness or syrup softens the exit; the beer closes as it began, letting malt carry the closing impression.
