Olde English 800 grew out of a stout first brewed in Duluth in the late 1940s; the malt liquor under the current name followed in 1964, and Miller has brewed it since 1999. It pours clear gold under a white head that leaves some lacing. The brewery describes a smooth, rich taste with a slightly fruity aroma, and tasters add white bread and fresh grass on the nose. Sweet, bready malt fills the palate, a touch of grassy bitterness keeps it in check, and the fairly full body ends in a semi-dry finish.
