Ich Bin Ein Berliner

Tap to rate

A pure, fruit-free sour ale in the Berliner Weisse style, a light and refreshing tart "kyseláč". It is brewed unfiltered and unpasteurised from barley and wheat malt. The recipe is an old one from a place near Berlin, and during the Napoleonic wars this style was nicknamed the "champagne of the north"; it was already very popular in the 19th century.

◎ Appearance

Pale straw yellow with a hazy, cloudy appearance from unfiltered suspension through the yeast. The head forms quickly and clings to the glass with fine lacing, typical of the style's delicate carbonation. The light body and minimal color depth (3 SRM) allow clear observation of the suspended particulates.
