Oblivion

Tap to rate

Oblivion is a Russian imperial stout with a thick, pillowy mouthfeel from oats and a complex roast from four different roast malts, finished with cocoa nibs and vanilla. Over 10 kg of freshly roasted nibs went in cold, after a double mash and an extended boil built a syrupy base. At 12% ABV, it is a big one.

Tasting Notes

AI-generated sensory profile for Oblivion

◎ Appearance

Near-black in the glass with a deep brown edge when held to light. A thick, tan head builds quickly and clings to the glass with persistent lacing, testament to the oat-derived body. Carbonation is restrained, allowing the dense foam collar to hold without aggressive bubbling.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with roasted grain and dark cocoa, layered beneath with notes of vanilla and a whisper of espresso. Cold cocoa nibs contribute a subtle nib-forward character that sits alongside the malt complexity. Alcohol warmth is present but not dominant, grounding the aromatic profile in cocoa and roast rather than heat.

◐ Taste

Entry is pillowy and creamy, the oats delivering a soft, full mouthfeel that coats the palate. Mid-palate reveals layered chocolate and vanilla, with roasted grain depth and a touch of coffee bitterness emerging. The 42 IBU sits in balance, providing structure without harshness; 12% ABV adds warming and slight boozy character that melds into the sweet-savory roast profile.
