Schloss Dunkel

Tap to rate

Schloss Dunkel is the dark speciality of the Moos castle brewery: very fine, malty in aroma and full-bodied. The brewery describes its dark beers as roasty-malty with a discreet malt sweetness. The castle behind the name has seen drama: in 1619 a great fire destroyed brewery, farm buildings and castle, and rebuilding began with the brewery, while the castle was finished only in 1636.

◐ Taste

Full-bodied and smooth entry gives way to a malty mid-palate with pronounced breadiness and a subtle sweetness that feels balanced rather than cloying. Roasted notes emerge gradually, contributing depth without bitterness; the 22 IBU are barely perceptible as sharp bite, instead functioning as a quiet anchor. The finish remains clean and dry despite the overall richness.
