It pours a deep brown with a creamy beige head. Light roast and a faint acidity show on the nose; on the palate it is firm and spicy, with toasty malt and a bitterness that tasters find unusually pronounced for a Dunkel, before a soft, rounded and fairly short finish. Like the Helles, it is brewed on site in Hannover's city centre and poured only in the house or filled into jugs to take home.
