Dortmunder Stifts-Brauerei was founded in 1867 by entrepreneur Eduard Frantzen on the grounds of a former convent in Dortmund-Hörde, where nuns from the Clarenberg monastery had historically brewed beer. In 1903 it merged with the Wallrabe-Brauerei, and in 1928 the brewery was renamed Dortmunder Stifts-Brauerei when Hörde was incorporated into Dortmund. After a series of ownership changes, Privatbrauerei Dortmunder Kronen acquired the brewery in 1987, and the production facility was demolished in 2020. The Stifts brand is today brewed and bottled by Dortmunder Actien-Brauerei.
