Shiner is the brand of the Spoetzl Brewery in a small Central Texas town settled largely by German and Czech immigrants. The Shiner Brewing Association was founded there in 1909 to brew beer the settlers knew from home; brewer Kosmos Spoetzl took over in 1914 and gave the brewery its name. Since 1989 it has belonged to The Gambrinus Company of San Antonio. Every beer is brewed on site, and the range centres on lagers, led by the Bock made year-round since 1973, alongside IPAs brewed with cactus water. A distillery and a barbecue restaurant share the grounds.
