Known for a full range of styles

The Hochstiftliches Brauhaus grew out of the Felsenkeller that innkeeper Joseph Wißner built on Fulda's Leipziger Straße in 1848. In 1906 it merged with the Löschenrod brewery into the Unionbrauerei Fulda and has carried its present name since December 1993. Brewmaster Johannes Hein works with water from the brewery's own well, German hops and malt from local maltings. The family business around Ulrich Klesper is part of a family of seven breweries.

The recurring character behind the beers

Hochstiftliches Brauhaus Fulda brew within a single family — the differences sit in how, not what.

With 4 beers, only recurring notes are shown — one unusual beer moves this a lot.

Compared with the wider catalogue of similar styles:

Three beers is enough for a first read, not a full house style — one unusual beer moves this a lot.

They stay close to the peer baseline on their recurring notes.

How we measure this

Two thresholds are at work here:

  • The signature list shows notes that recur in at least 6% of this brewery's beers. A low bar — enough to flag a pattern, not high enough to call it an exclusive trait.
  • The peer comparison below shows only notes where this brewery's coverage differs from similar breweries by at least 20 percentage points. A higher bar — enough to call a real difference, not a nudge.

A note can appear on the signature list without appearing in the peer comparison: it recurs here, but similar breweries do the same thing.
