Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island was founded by husband and wife Alan and Jennifer Brinton, officially opening on November 11, 2011, in Westerly, Rhode Island. The brewery is housed in a circa-1920s building that originally served as the Westerly Macaroni Factory, later used by the U.S. Postal Service and then NAPA Auto Parts before being repurposed as a brewery. Grey Sail's first beer was Flagship Ale, and its double IPA Captain's Daughter became the beer that put the brewery on the map regionally and nationally. In 2016 the Brintons opened an outdoor beer garden at the property, and the brewery has since distinguished itself by becoming the first craft brewery in Rhode Island to capture and reuse its own CO2 emissions.
