Museum brewery in the village of Singen near Stadtilm in Thuringia, run by the same family since master brewer Richard Schmitt bought the brewhouse in 1885. The building dates from 1875, and a carters' inn stood on the old Nuremberg–Erfurt road here as early as the 17th century. Much of the equipment Schmitt installed is still in use: a 12-horsepower steam engine drives the mash stirrers, wort ferments in wooden vats and the beer matures in oak barrels. Listed as a monument since 1976, the brewery makes around 800 hectolitres a year.
