Black Sheep Brewery
Black Sheep Brewery was founded in 1992 by Paul Theakston in Masham, North Yorkshire, on the former site of the Lightfoot's brewery. Theakston, who had previously been managing director of the nearby Theakston Brewery before it was sold in 1984, established Black Sheep as a family-run independent brewery. The brewery's name was inspired by the strong association between Masham and sheep farming. In May 2023 the company entered administration due to cashflow pressures, but was rescued and sold to Breal Group (subsequently Keystone Brewing Group) later that month, with brewing continuing in Masham.
