Anderson Valley Brewing Company was founded on December 26, 1987, by David Norfleet and Ken and Kim Allen in Boonville, California, in the heart of Mendocino County's Anderson Valley. The original 10-barrel brewpub was housed in the lower level of the historic Buckhorn Saloon on downtown Boonville's main street. At the time of its founding, it was one of roughly 20 craft breweries operating in the entire United States. In 1996, growing demand prompted the construction of a larger 30-barrel production facility just outside town. The brewery has changed ownership several times, most recently being sold to local entrepreneur Jason McConnell in early 2025, while remaining an independent craft operation.
