Nightjar

Tap to rate

Rich coffee leads, with roasted barley and chocolate on the nose and a full-bodied, creamy, smooth pour. Nightjar launched in September 2022 as a nitrogenated evolution of Peter Amor's original Dorothy Goodbody's Wholesome Stout cask recipe, brewed with local hops and British malt. At 4.2 % it took Bronze in 2025 and Gold in 2026 for Keg Stout & Porter at the Midlands & West Indie Beer Awards.

AI-generated sensory profile for Nightjar

◎ Appearance

Deep black color with minimal light transmission, characteristic of a traditional stout. The nitrogenated carbonation creates a dense, persistent tan head with excellent retention and fine lacing that clings to the glass. The pour is visibly smooth and creamy, with a full, velvety appearance throughout.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads decisively with rich coffee notes, roasted barley, and cocoa undertones that define the aromatic character. Secondary notes of dark chocolate and subtle burnt malt complexity emerge with time in the glass. The aroma is clean and well-integrated, with no harsh roasted edges, suggesting careful malt selection and roasting control.

◐ Taste

The palate is full-bodied and creamy, with coffee and roasted grain flavors dominating the entry and mid-palate. Chocolate and malty sweetness provide structure and depth, while the moderate 35 IBU bitterness remains restrained and complements rather than overwhelms. The mouthfeel is exceptionally smooth, with the nitrogen integration creating a silky, almost dessert-like texture.

◑ Finish

The finish is clean and moderately dry, with lingering coffee and roasted notes fading gradually. Despite the low 4.2% ABV, there is no thin or hollow quality; the finish maintains substance and leaves a pleasant aftertaste of cocoa and roasted barley.
