The Pursuit

Tap to rate

Sixpoint says everyone has something that drives them, and for the Brooklyn brewery it is making good beer for good people. There is a lot more beer out there than when it started in 2004, fruity and hazy included, so for The Pursuit Sixpoint brewed a straight-up American IPA instead. Call it a curveball, call it mad science. It comes in at 6.4% ABV and belongs to the brewery's year-round core range.

◌ Aroma

The nose leads with prominent citrus notes—grapefruit and orange peel—layered over a clean, resinous hop character. Beneath the hop-forward profile, subtle Malz sweetness emerges, providing a light grain foundation without dominating. The overall impression is fresh and focused, with no harsh alcohol or yeast-driven esters clouding the composition.

◐ Taste

Entry is crisp and immediately hoppy, with bitter compounds settling in the mid-palate at a moderate level that does not overwhelm. Citrus flavors echo the aroma, complemented by a dry, clean malt structure that refuses to become heavy. The balance tilts decidedly toward the hops, yet the overall effect remains approachable rather than austere.

◑ Finish

The finish is dry and relatively short-lived, with lingering hop bitterness fading into a clean aftertaste. No residual sweetness or hot alcohol burn intrudes; the beer simply resolves into silence.
