Pumpkinator

Tap to rate

Big, black and full of spice: an imperial pumpkin stout brewed with pale two-row, caramel and black malts, pumpkin for a rich mouthfeel, molasses, brown sugar and spices, then dry-spiced, with Cascade and Liberty hops for a background hop flavor. It began in 2009 as Divine Reserve No. 9 and became Pumpkinator in 2011. At 10.3% ABV and 34 IBU, it won silver at the World Beer Cup in 2012 and 2023.

◌ Aroma

The nose opens with layered spice notes—clove, nutmeg, and cinnamon prominent from the pumpkin and spice additions. Hop presence is restrained, allowing the adjuncts to dominate the aromatic profile.

◐ Taste

Entry is rich and full-bodied, with pumpkin and brown sugar sweetness balanced by the roasted character of black and caramel malts. Mid-palate displays warming spice and cocoa notes, with underlying dark fruit complexity. Bitterness is gentle at 34 IBU, providing structure without assertiveness; Cascade and Liberty hops lend subtle herbal background rather than hop-forward bite. The 10.3% ABV adds a warming alcohol note in the finish.
