Maes Pils

Tap to rate

Refined bitterness marks Maes Pils, a 5.2% Belgian pils brewed with Saaz hops and extra malt. Its roots go back to 1930, when the Prima Maezenbier was presented at the Antwerp World Exhibition; on 20 April 2009 the new Maes, with more malt, started flowing from the taps. Water, barley malt, glucose syrup, hops and hop extract go into the kettle.

◐ Taste

Entry is crisp and clean, with a malty foundation that provides body and slight sweetness before a measured, refined bitterness takes hold. The mid-palate strikes a classic pilsner balance—enough hop bite to feel substantial, yet restrained enough to keep the beer approachable and drinkable.

Serve at 4–7°C

Serve well-chilled at 4–6°C for maximum crispness. A pilsner served too warm loses its defining snap.

Pilsner glass

The tall, narrow pilsner glass preserves carbonation and showcases the golden clarity that defines the style.

Drink fresh and cold. Pilsners do not improve with age — within 3 months of packaging is ideal.

hopIQ matches by flavor profile — not just style label. A beer with the same bitter, noble-hop, malty character as Maes Pils will score highly even if brewed in a different country or under a different sub-style name.
